11th WTA General Assembly & 2018 Global Innovation Forum

Deadline 31 October 2017



WTA will organise its 11th General Assembly in 2018 and is calling upon its members to nominate a venue.


Since its founding in 1998, WTA General Assembly has been organised in the following locations:


• 1st General Assembly in 1998

Daejeon, Republic of Korea


2nd General Assembly in 2000

Nanjing, China


3rd General Assembly in 2002

Monterrey, Nuevo Leon State, Mexico


• 4th General Assembly in 2004

Uppsala, Sweden


5th General Assembly in 2006

Brisbane, Australia


6th General Assembly in 2008

Daejeon, Republic of Korea


7th General Assembly in 2010

Hsinchu, Chinese Taipei


8th General Assembly in 2012

Gliwice, Poland


9th General Assembly in 2014

Daejeon, Republic of Korea


10th General Assembly in 2016

Tangerang Selatan, Indonesia



WTA General Assembly is usually organised in autumn and attracts roughly around 500 delegates, representing more than 30 member cities, universities and organizations, giving the host city a unique opportunity to present themselves to expert group of Science & Technology including central/local government officials, scholars/researchers and entrepreneurs from all over the world. WTA General Assembly normally comprises of Executive Board Meeting, WTA University Presidents’ Forum, WTA Mayors’ Forum, and General Assembly Meeting. Regional UNESCO-WTA Training Workshop also can be co-hosted optionally.


Since its foundation in 2014, Global Innovation Forum which is an official initiative between WTA and UNESCO to promote the culture of innovation based on science and technology can be hosted in association with the General Assembly. Global Innovation Forum will be a unique opportunity to connect R&D professionals, STI policy makers, players in the hi-tech productive sector and civil society from across the globe.


In order to get more active interaction of private sector, WTA Hi-Tech Fair will be a great option. You can host a technical exhibition with high-tech based SMEs and Start-ups. WTA b2meeting will bring the representatives of Chamber of Commerce of WTA member cities and countries to allow a unique opportunity to understand the foreign markets.



To nominate your city, please send an official letter that outlines why you wish to host the 11th WTA General Assembly and 2018 Global Innovation Forum no later than 31st October 2017. The Executive Board Members will review and vote for the final host city. The result will be announced with the end of this year.


Proposals should include:


-          Overview of facilities of the proposed venue

-          Overview of local institutional engagement and support for the local organizer

-          Possible arrangements for social events (including welcome reception and farewell dinner)

-          Options for accommodation (with provisional costs)

-          Travel information

-          A provisional budget, with a provisional registration fee

-          Options for payment (credit card, foreign currency etc.) for registration



Deadline for proposals is 31 October 2017. Please send all proposals to WTA Secretariat at wta@wtanet.org
